A DIY Nursery!

So with Ella Grace I was so obsessed with keeping everything "gender neutral" and not making her room overly girly. We chose farm animals. As soon as she was old enough to speak she wanted anything and everything pink & purple. So with Anna Jane I wanted to do two things. 1. Keep it cheap. We spent a fortune on baby things with Ella so this kid is going to be a secondhand queen 2. Make it pretty & let it transition well in to a room she'll love.

So we did just that! I browsed Pinterest for inspirations and armed with a few cans of spray paint it just took off!

1. Crib & Changing table: Were purchased for $100 total from Craigslist! They are like new and well built. I didn't want brown, but I could NOT pass that up.
2. 'A' picture: I had a gold framed Van Gogh print that no longer had a home in our house. I found a $2 'A' at a craft store and a pack of fabric squares that were girly and beautiful & Tim attacked with the paint. I am thrilled with how it turned out!
3. Frames: I was talking with a patients daughter and I mentioned I was going to head to Good will to find some frames and a few days later she showed up with a box of random frames she no longer uses! Tim painted them for me and I picked out a few fabric squares and voila...beautiful framed pictures! She also had a very pretty baby pink quilt for me which is in the crib in the pictures below!
4. Crib sheets: Whoa buddy crib bedding is expensive! So my mother in law & I went to JoAnn's and found some girly fun fabrics and she made me several sets of crib sheets! She then took the pieces of crib sheets and my left over fabric squares and is making a gorgeous quilt to match.
5. Crib skirt: double whoa buddy. The cheapest crib skirt I could find was $89 (that I liked) and it only went up...up...and up from there. So ebay became my friend and I found a Pottery Barn Kids crib skirt nip for $13 (with shipping) it is striped which I thought was a nice opposite from the flowers. So then about a week later PBK had a sale and I picked up another one for $21 (total) and mother in law is making me curtains from it! Yay!
6. The Glider: No picture yet, it isn't finished. But a new glider, cheapest model out there is $150 a la Wally World. My mother called to tell me about an old one at Goodwill. I was feeling snobbish that day and fought going to look at it, but once I got there I figured $30 was too good of a deal to pass up. So Tim painted it (beautifully spray painted) and my mother in law had some thick pink fabric and is doing the cushions for us now!
7. Lamp: In Ella's gender neutral room we had a silver floor lamp with a cream shade. A little fabric from my fabric squares, some fabric glue took care of the shade and that pink can of spray paint transformed the base into a girly pink! I have some finishing touches and some fixing up to do on it still. An unclose look shows off the flaws but for now its perfect!
8. Mirror: Yard sale gold and that pink spray paint= perfection!
9. Shelving: My wonderful husband made me custom shelves. I wanted the ones on the left to be bigger to house baskets for diapers (top), misc baby stuff (middle) and diapering supplies (wipes etc) bottom. And on the other side he put some shelving for decorative stuff and nice hooks for me to hang things like baby towels etc. IT IS PERFECT! I'm thrilled with the shelves!

So enough of my babbling! Here are the pictures! More to come as the nursery progresses!
